Mick has over 16 years of experience as a trainer, facilitator, and program leader with expertise in experiential learning, adventure-based training, teambuilding, leadership development, and conflict management. Mick leads the Experiential Learning and Development Series in the HR Consulting Division.

Prior to joining People First HR, Mick co-founded and operated an award winning experiential education and adventure-based learning company. During that time he acquired specialist knowledge in the areas of small business systems management, staff and volunteer management, strategic planning, project management, training and facilitation, experiential program design, expedition leadership, teambuilding and leadership competency development.

Simultaneously, Mick held a founding position for a youth intervention program within the Winnipeg School Division for 9 years. In his role as a specialized education program consultant and project team leader, Mick was responsible for complete project management over six sites; training, leading, and managing annual staff and volunteer teams; and the creation of customized curriculum. During this time, Mick was the recipient of 8 provincial awards in the areas of restorative justice, crime prevention, and volunteer services.

Mick is trained in appreciative inquiry facilitation and personal resiliency theory, certified as a Challenge Course Leader, and has published on ethical leadership. He is a sessional instructor and academic advisor to the faculty of Recreation Management and Community Development at the University of Manitoba; the central community partnership coordinator for Canada’s largest outdoor gear retailer co-op, and the Director of Team Learning for a travel learning company. He is currently the owner / operator of a seasonal kayaking school.

Mick graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Studies from the University of Manitoba. He is a nationally certified instructor trainer for whitewater kayaking, a certified outdoor rock climbing instructor and avid outdoor adventurer and athlete. In addition, he is a Master Educator for Leave No Trace Canada, a national lifeguard and certified in Wilderness First Aid. He is the volunteer Chair for both the national and provincial river kayaking program development committees with Paddle Canada and Paddle Manitoba respectively. Mick is a member of the Dauphin Chamber of Commerce.
